The Eternal Cost

The Eternal Cost

The governing question is whether, at Type II, humanity will accept any moral and existential price for immortality.

Yamanaka factors show that rejuvenation can hold at cell scale. Glueballs show that a field can cross media. Together they turn "whether immortality is possible" into "whether a million people may be spent to calibrate the field". Sirius is the utilitarian solution: a million lives for a glueball–Yamanaka field covering hundreds of millions, interrupting a ceiling that falls five to six years every twenty. The insisted form of the Cradle is the humanitarian limit: accept the continuing slide rather than meet the boundary condition by deliberate sacrifice.

The brief recovery and sudden death of Ming artisans who ingested luminous metal was partial reprogramming without a stable scaffold. Interstellar colonisation scales the same experiment to planet and population. Later works cover the Ming origin, early colonial power struggles, cybernetic bodies, and the same cost on other planets.
